CHANDIGARH: Limited policing at night-food street in front of the PGI made eating there less palatable for the people worried about security. Now, UT police have decided to depute a sub-inspector, head constable and two constables on the street along with a PCR vehicle. One of the constables will be a woman, who will be relieved after 2am.
Cops have also decided to set up a beat box there and asked the municipal corporation to install closed circuit televisions (CCTV) cameras on the street along with improving the lighting.
The street has become a sensitive area and has witnessed brawls and eve-teasing incidents. The police team will be deputed there to counter these problems and increase the level of security,? said Sector-11 SHO Sukhbir Rana.
Cops have also asked MC to provide more parking space there. Often, people going to food street park their vehicles on the road in front of PGI. That is because the parking lot there is not big enough. That can be hazardous for others driving on that road. So we have asked the MC to increase the parking space, he said.
It is learnt that the SSPs office has forwarded this proposal to the MC for implementation. This was done after the eveteasing incident of late Tuesday night, when a Sector-37 resident said some miscreants had misbehaved with her. She had alleged that instead of helping, the constable on duty and a home guard volunteer had misbehaved with her and her husband, allowing miscreants to flee.
Rana said they were looking for the said miscreants. Sources in the police added that the constable had been served a show-cause notice. No FIR has been registered as yet and the SHO said police were inspecting the contents of the DDR registered on the womans complaint.
